SlimSocial is a lightweight, ad-free browser for Facebook. It shows the Facebook mobile site in a small, fast, private app. There are no ads, no trackers, and no notifications. WHY SLIMSOCIAL? - LIGHTWEIGHT. The app is less than 10 MB. It saves storage, battery, and mobile data. - NO ADS. SlimSocial hides ads, sponsored posts, stories, and the "People You May Know" block. - NO NOTIFICATIONS. The app sends no notifications. You open your feed when you want to. - PRIVATE. The app collects and transmits no personal or device information. You grant the camera, gallery, and location permissions one at a time, only if you want them. - OPEN SOURCE. The full source code is on GitHub under the GPL-2.0 licence. Anyone can read it, verify it, and contribute. - FREE. SlimSocial is free and contains no ads.     Tablets keep the full desktop layout again with "Use desktop site" on. ## Fixed - **Tablets keep the desktop layout at their own width (#395).** Since 26.09.07, "Use desktop site" laid the page out 980 pixels wide on every screen. On a tablet wider than that, the page jumped to a larger size a moment after it opened, and the left menu disappeared. A wider screen now keeps its own width, and the width updates when you rotate the tablet.     The desktop site scrolls all the way down again, and saving a very large video no longer closes the app. ## Fixed - **The feed and Marketplace scroll past the first screen with "Use desktop site" on (#369).** Since 26.09.01, a rule for the touch site made the page stop after one screen on the desktop layout, so no new posts loaded.     Videos and Reels play in HD, the app reopens the page you were on, and long-press on posts works again. ## New - **Videos and Reels in HD.** The default user agent is now Chrome 131 on Android. Facebook serves video at up to 720p with it, where it offers that quality, instead of 360p (#373). - **The app reopens the page you were on (#380).** On a cold start the app loads the last Facebook page you had open. Login, checkpoint, link-warning, sharer and composer pages are not reopened, and neither is a page saved with a different user agent. Reset clears the saved page. ## Fixed - **Long-press on Like opens the reactions.** It no longer selects the button label or opens the text-selection menu. Post text can be selected and copied again. - **No "Open app" button on Reels.** The button in the Reels header is hidden. - **No rating prompt during sign-in.** Login and two-step verification pages do not count toward the rating prompt, and the prompt is never shown on them.

    Saved photos keep a normal name, and a startup crash is fixed. ## Fixed - **Saved photos end in `.jpg`.** They used to be saved as `.jpe`, which many gallery and photo apps do not show (#379, #363). - **No startup crash with a custom user agent.** A custom user agent that contained a line break made the app close at every start.     > **Note on the version number:** this build is `26.08.28+124`. The date reads older than the previous release (`26.08.30+123`), but the build number is higher and this *is* the newer release. Cosmetic slip in the version string; it will be corrected in the next one. Six fixes to the feed, and two to Messenger — including one that made Messenger impossible to sign into. ## Feed - **Pinch-to-zoom now works.** Facebook ships `maximum-scale=1, user-scalable=no` in its viewport tag, and that was the only thing blocking the gesture. Text zoom could never enlarge a posted screenshot; this can. - **Post text is selectable and images are long-pressable again.** Facebook's touch layout disabled both, so an address in a post could not be copied and a photo could not be saved. - **Collapsing an ad no longer jumps the feed.** Hiding a post above the viewport slid everything below it up under your thumb — the common case, not the corner one. The scroll position is now restored across the hide. - **Shared links no longer carry a tag identifying you.** `fbclid`, `mibextid`, `sfnsn`, `paipv` and the rest say who did the sharing rather than what was shared; they are stripped before the share sheet sees the link. A link the cleaner does not fully understand is passed through byte for byte, so nothing is rewritten for no reason.

    - **Full-screen video links stay in the app** instead of falling through to a Custom Tab, which either handed you to the official Facebook app or did nothing at all. ## Messenger - **Messenger can be signed into again.** It authenticates against `facebook.com`, not `messenger.com`, so the login-code prompt arrived on a facebook.com address — which the Messenger screen was sending straight to the feed. The screen closed itself half way through authenticating and the code prompt surfaced in the wrong webview. The sign-in flow is now recognised and kept where it belongs. - **The conversation list has its full height.** Only one conversation was reachable: on a phone-sized viewport Messenger's own layout collapsed the list to 100px while the scroller inside it held 2168px of conversations. Sixteen were in the document and fifteen could not be scrolled to. ## Privacy - Messenger no longer logs the tapped URL in release builds. It was a plain `print`, and stdout is collected as a crash-report breadcrumb, so every link opened out of a conversation was travelling with the next report. ## Reporting bugs There is now a **bug report form** on the issue tracker.
