    # Streak 1.9.0 · Your reports 1.8.0 brought Windows and the island, and it also brought a wave of people telling us what was broken. This release is the answer: eleven repairs, five new things and two more languages. Every line of it came from someone writing in. ## ✨ New - **Any emoji can be a habit icon** (#177). The picker had a fixed list. Now there is a field where you type or paste whatever you want, in all three

    styles. - **Times completed, in Statistics** (#163). This week, this month, this year and all time, for every habit together or for one alone. Until now everything hung off the year selector, so there was no way to see your totals since the beginning. - **Days you no longer need look kept** (#159). On a weekly or monthly target, once you hit it the remaining days are shaded in the habit colour instead of sitting empty. They also count towards the day's progress: a 3x a week habit used to make a perfect day impossible. - **The streak badge says what it counts** (#166). A weekly habit shows `1w`, a monthly one `1mo`. A bare `1` never said whether it meant days, weeks or months. - **Scenes that move, on the desktop** (#158). On Windows, Focus gets four animated backgrounds instead of the phone photos: a rainy cabin, a fireplace, a desk at night and a cat asleep by the fire. Wide by design, so no more upscaled portrait photos on a big window. The phone keeps its six scenes. ## 🐛 Fixes - **Dates no longer repeat or skip on the day the clock changes** (#162). A day was duplicated around the October change. Days are now added by the calendar, not by hours. - **Days filled in before the start day count towards the streak** (#168, #169). They were saved and drawn as done but never counted. A habit now starts at its oldest mark. - **Past days can be checked from the month calendar again** (#169). - **Clean days look kept on avoid habit cards** (#170), in Week, Month and Year, not only in Classic. - **A day that has not arrived is never shown as done** (#161). - **The selected filter keeps its label readable** on light colours (#173). - **Tapping an avoid habit in the widget asks first** (#168). One tap used to log a relapse with no confirmation. It now opens the habit instead. - **Statistics no longer slow the app down** (#172). The hidden tabs recomputed on every check, in every screen. Measured after the fix with 15 habits and two years of history: about 1.3 s to a ready screen, 30 ms to check something off. - **The desktop window always appears** (#174), even when the app cannot start. It used to run as a process and show nothing, silently. Now you get a window with the error, and the trace lands in `%TEMP%\streak_startup_error.txt`. - **Reminders stay quiet on days a habit is not due** (#164). - **The check time is the real time** when your day starts later than midnight (#179). With the day starting at 3:00 the history showed every check three hours early. ## 🌍 Translations **German and Korean join the list** (#178). This one was our own fault, not Weblate's: a whitelist in the code was leaving out eight languages that were already translated. Dutch waits until it reaches 70%.     you download, unzip and run. - **It fits the window you give it.** Narrow, it is the phone app you already know. Wide, it opens up into a sidebar, a column of habits and a detail panel on the right, so opening a habit no longer covers the list. - **The three styles all speak desktop.** Classic, Minimal and Express each get their own sidebar, their own empty panel and their own dividers. Minimal had none of this before: its navigation lived in the top bar and the app sat in a narrow column. - **Statistics use the room.** On a wide window the year grid spans the top and the cards fall into two balanced columns, so a year of progress fits on one screen without scrolling. - **Small desktop manners**: the habit open on the right is outlined in the list, Escape closes the panel, the sidebar reacts to the mouse, and the window no longer opens taller than your screen. - Your data lives in `Documents\Streak`, backups and all. ## 🏝️ An island that grows with you (#75, beta) Turn on Settings → Gamification and every habit you keep pays for a Mediterranean archipelago you build piece by piece. - **17 islands across 13 districts and 492 plots**, from a flower pot to a windmill, a bell tower and a villa. The shop groups them by district and can hide anything you cannot afford yet. - **Coins come from what you already do**: 10 for a habit checked off, 4 for a to-do finished, 1 per focus minute up to 60 a day, 25 more for a perfect day, and a bonus when a habit reaches 7, 30, 100 or 365 days. They are read from your history, so restoring a backup brings them back. - **The light follows your clock.** Morning, noon, evening and night each fall on the island differently. Drag to move, pinch to zoom, twist to turn the view. - **This is a first take and it says so.** The island is marked beta in Settings and in its own help sheet. Thank you for putting it out there. ## 📈 Charts you can actually read (#136) Every chart used to be a shape without a scale. You had to touch it to learn anything, and the dashed line said `⌀ 8m` without saying what the 8m was. - **A scale on the left** of every chart, lines and bars alike, with quiet reference lines across the plot. Numbers are rounded to values that read well, and the unit stays out of the axis and in the tooltip. - **The average line says what it is**, and the goal line is drawn separately. - **Express gets a chart of its own**: a point on every day, a window you drag to travel back through the history, and a tooltip in the style's own shape. The amount and focus charts in a habit now keep 30 days instead of 14. - Classic keeps its charts, now with the scale. Minimal keeps its bars, also with the scale, and stays free of line charts on purpose. ## ✨ Also new - **Habits you only want to track** (#138). A switch, not a fourth habit type: the habit stops counting towards streaks, perfect days and the daily total, and simply records that the day happened. - **A readable copy of your habits, and a shared folder** (#139). Alongside the backup file, Streak can keep a folder of plain files you can open anywhere, and a folder both the app and you can write into. Merging is a union: nothing you have is ever overwritten. - **Focus fills a time habit with the minutes you really did** (#149), instead of ticking it off as if the session had been perfect. - **Every settings row says what it does** (#142). No more guessing from a title. - **Each widget opens its own page** (#137): the habits widget goes to habits, the to-do widget goes to to-dos. - **Quotes can be turned off** (#146). - **The last time you checked a habit off** (#157). Streak now saves the exact time, shows it in the habit, and opens a history of every day you checked it with the time next to it. Handy when you cannot remember whether you already logged the water you drank. - **A yearly grid that ends today** (#152). Off by default, so the grid stays the calendar year it has always been. Turn it on in Settings and it becomes a rolling twelve months finishing today, the way a contribution grid does. - **Connect the days** is now in the Express settings too, where it was missing. ## 🐛 Fixes - The habit photo shows on the card in Express, not only inside the habit (#155). - The card subtitle no longer runs over the check button (#154). - The relapse button did nothing outside Classic (#140). - Focus tracks vanished when the cache was cleared (#143). - A Loop database file picked by mistake is caught before it can crash the import (#151). - No daily wake-up when you have no widgets on the home screen (#150). - A negative habit reads the same inside and outside the habit. - The focus notification and the app show the same clock. - The window opened bigger than the screen at 125% scaling. ## 🌍 Translations **Streak now speaks Dutch**, and German, Korean, Portuguese and Ukrainian all moved on this round. Thanks to everyone translating on [Weblate](https://hosted.weblate.org/engage/streak/). ## 🐛 Fixes - **The widgets could paint over each other (#121).** Every checkbox built an intent Android could not tell apart, so tapping a habit could redraw a different widget entirely. - **A focus habit's tick could be wiped by accident (#122).** The guard only protected ticking, so tapping a finished day cleared it without asking. Now it asks first. - **Restoring a backup could import only part of it (#127).** Coming back from the file picker reloaded the database while the import was still writing to it.     ## 🔔 Reminders that fit your day (#116) To-dos with a date and a time now remind you, and the reminder goes away when you tick the to-do off. Habit reminders can repeat every 2, 3, 4, 6, 8 or 12 hours until the end of the day, capped at eight so they cannot flood you. ## 🏖️ Pause everything at once (#115) One switch in Settings pauses every habit. Turn on **To-dos** in Settings and Today gets a list for the things that happen once, with a priority and a day. Off by default. ## 🕘 A time for each habit Turn on **Plan the day** and habits can have a time and a duration. The **Day** button then opens a timeline: your habits in order, the free time between them, and you can tick them straight from there. Off by default. ## 🔁 Every X days, done properly - Days the habit **never asked for** no longer look like a miss. - Days **covered by an early check-in** are tinted in the habit's colour. - **Doing it early keeps the streak going.** The streak still counts the times you did what was due, not calendar days, and Today still asks you on the due day even if you got ahead. ## 💬 Write your own quotes **Settings → Quotes**: write, edit and delete your own, and choose what shows up on Today, the ones that come with the app, yours, or both. Pick "Mine" with an empty list and the line disappears. It fades into a new one each time you come back to Today. ## 🎨 Widgets can follow your system theme A **Follow system theme** switch when you set up a widget: pick a colour for dark and one for light and it uses whichever matches your phone. It redraws when you open Streak, tick a habit, at midnight or on Android's widget refresh, so it can lag behind a flip that happens with the app closed. ## 🏆 Perfect day streak Progress tracks a streak of days where everything due got done. Days when nothing was due neither count nor break it. ## 📈 Consistency that adds up It was dividing by all 30 days of the month, ignoring the habit's schedule, so three-weekdays habits could never pass about 43%. Only the days a habit was actually due count now, and it shows next to each habit on Today and in Progress. ## ✨ Also new - **🗓️ Days that are not yours**: a warning before logging a day the habit does not run on. Not blocked, just asked. Not in the widget yet. - **🗒️ A tidier Today**: notes and to-dos in one block, and tapping any day logs it instead of only opening it. - **📊 Amount per day**: a two week bar chart for quantitative habits. - **🎉 Pick your celebration**: confetti, fireworks or Surprise me, on every habit you complete. - **🔒 Lock after**: instantly, 30 seconds, 1 minute or 5 minutes. App lock also hides Streak from recents, which means no screenshots inside the app. - **🔢 Decimals in amounts**: 1.5 litres, 2.5 km, 0.75 hours. - **🧹 Clear progress**: wipe logged days, notes and sessions, keep the habits. - **🤫 Activity on cards** can be hidden, for a plain short list. - **😴 Rest days** are a dropdown now, closed by default. ## 🛠️ Improvements - **Completed last, done right**: a completed habit fades and slides down instead of jumping, and comes back the same way. - **The Today ring animates** to its new value, once per visit. - **Lighter again**: long lists build as you scroll, ticking a habit no longer rebuilds all of Today, and the heatmap widget stopped redrawing for nothing. - **The yearly heatmap opens on the current month.** - **Report an issue** replaces the two separate links. ## 🐛 Fixes - **Widgets got stuck on yesterday.** The midnight alarm was being asked for politely and Android pushed it back by up to three days. It is exact now. - **Two Streaks in the recent apps list.** Old entries stay until you swipe them. - **Reordering flickered on release**, and **did not stick when the list was filtered**. - **Minimal flickered** when a completed habit dropped. - **Going over an amount goal** painted the same as hitting it. - **Typing 0 minutes** for a session now picks Flowtime. - **The flip timer spilled over the card below.** Too much perspective on big cards, so the panel that rotates grew past its own card. - **Week and Month labels were cut off** with large fonts. - The **empty Brazilian Portuguese** translation is gone. ## 🌍 Translations **Ukrainian joins the app**, fully translated. All fixed. ## 🌍 Translations Streak now speaks **English, Spanish, Russian and Chinese** in full, with German, Portuguese, Ukrainian, Polish, French and Indonesian on their way, and you can pick the language in Settings. Thanks to everyone translating on [Weblate](https://hosted.weblate.org/engage/streak/). ## 🐛 Fixes - **Reminders stopped working after updating.** The notification store is keyed by field name, and the release optimiser renamed those fields on every build, so a new version couldn't read what the old one wrote: only one of seven weekly alarms survived, and nothing came back after a reboot.
