- Mar 8, 2026 0.17.0> Note: Apple has finally approved my developer membership! Syncplay Mobile is now officially available on the App Store (thanks @sepsol) and Google Play. For jailbroken devices, an `.ipa` is attached to this release for sideloading. AltStore will continue working as well, but the App Store version is the recommended way to go. This is NOT backward-compatible with the previous version (0.16.0). Uninstall the old one then install the new one. :warning: ## Changes **Bug Fixes** (The previous version was plagued with stability issues. Hopefully this version brings a smoother experience): - Fixed "Ready" state being lost after reconnecting - Fixed solo mode incorrectly creating a server room - Fixed seekbar not jumping correctly on tap or drag

- Fixed home screen text fields rejecting whitespace - Fixed recursive room events caused by responding to own server events - Fixed seeks not triggering or dispatching to server correctly - Fixed theme names not appearing in the theme picker - Fixed seekForward/seekBackward gestures in room and solo mode - Fixed file mismatch warning triggering against self or firing incorrectly - Fixed seeks not being saved for undo - Fixed chat input losing text when UI is hidden - Fixed duplicate "user loaded a file" announcements, which also caused PC clients to fatally disconnect - _Android-only_: Fixed crash occurring after ~20 minutes on newer Android versions - _Android-only_: Fixed subtitle size preference having no effect - _Android-only_: Fixed black screen when loading media or subtitles in MPV. #139 by @ZediAlreadyTaken - _Android-only_: Fixed disconnections when backgrounding the app (e.g. while picking a file) **Improvements** - Removed ping indicator from top bar (inaccurate and hurt performance) - Improved disconnection detection - Seekbar repositioned further from bottom edge to avoid triggering system gestures on iOS and Android gesture navigation - Chat messages now padded away from camera notch - Chapters button hidden when media has no chapters - Add Keyboard dismissed action after entering custom server password **New Features** - Adjustable alpha/transparency for color picker preferences - New in-room setting: Adjustable chat outline thickness - New in-room setting: Adjustable room UI transparency ## About translations * You can now contribute to translation via Weblate by visiting [hosted weblate link](https://hosted.weblate.org/projects/syncplay-mobile/) and translating words or adding a language. Contributions are very much welcome! Hopefully this helps reduce situations where languages are missing many words because I happen to be adding/editing strings from time to time. ## iOS - How to install? - The app is currently in review on Apple store (and will probably be available within 1-2 days). - If, for some reason, you don't wanna use Apple store, then you can sideload the app using this guide [here](https://github.com/yuroyami/syncplay-mobile/wiki/How-to-install-the-app-on-iOS). The guide applies to non-jailbroken normal devices as well as jailbroken devices. ## 🤖 Android - How to install and what to download? The app is available on Google Play store but sometimes that version can be a bit obsolete since Google takes a while to review apps. So it's always *best* that you download it from here. If you're not familiar with different phone architectures, use the **universal** version (compatible with all phones), though it is quite large. Instead, you can download the `arm64-v8a` APK, which should work on most modern phones. If that doesn’t work, try the `armeabi-v7a` APK. Some devices use rare architectures like `x86_64` or `x86`. If you don't need all the video engines (mpv, VLC), you can download `syncplay-version-exo-only.apk`, which includes only ExoPlayer. This should be compatible and stable with any phone and supports many video formats. Personally, I prefer mpv, as it is the most stable and can handle almost everything, but is only shipped with the **full** APKs. - Nov 18, 2025 0.16.0> Note: This release goes one step closer to fidelity to the original implementation as well as provide a better UI overall to reduce eye strain and provide better UI clarity. The entire codebase changed and underwent major overhaul. Please report bugs if you encounter any. This is NOT backward-compatible with the previous version (0.15.0). Uninstall the old one then install the new one. :warning: ## Changes * Added managed room functionality: users can now create managed rooms (and identify as operators in other managed rooms). #17 Thanks @Et0h * Fully reimplemented the Syncplay protocol for better fidelity to the original implementation: This is a major step towards stability and interoperability, hoping that this reduces syncing hiccups. #119 #121 @Osanosa * Implemented themes to replace day/night mode. A bunch of themes are available out of the box including an AMOLED theme (in this case, it will not really save battery consumption since 95% of the screen is occupied by the video surface.) #106 @7heMech * You can also create/customize your own themes freely, or even customize the built-in ones.
* Hide Chat area when the server has it disabled. #107 @7heMech * Fixed crash on Android versions prior to Oreo (<API 28) due to enabling cut-out mode on unsupported devices. #114 @Osanosa * Fix cutout mode not being applied properly on pre-Android 11 devices. * Added a tip-of-the-day popup at app launch which can be dismissed indefinitely until enabled again. * The UI is fully revised, many things are tweaked for better user experience. * Chat history will be automatically scrolled to the end when opened. * Exoplayer-only: Use system decoder instead of FFmpeg extension for audio whenever possible as it's faster with no overhead. * Added compatibility with new devices that require 16KB memory page size. This was introduced in Android 16 and required that all native libraries (e.g: libVLC, libmpv, and Exoplayer's audio libffmpeg) have to be recompiled to support 16KB alignment. #126 @Osanosa * Fixed an issue where adding a very long URL on Add URL popups would squeeze out the confirmation button. * Increased performance and consequently reduced battery usage. * Fixed translations where a lot of strings were missing. Also added Polish and German prototypes via DeepseekAI. #134 @qq1795818375 * Improved file mismatch detection and warning. * Fixed Solo mode (Offline mode). * Workaround to fix Android's VLC black screen (subtitles will not work due to the usage of TextureView). Please keep in mind that the VLC engine is extremely buggy on Android due to how it handles callbacks. Avoid using it unless you have a media format that isn't playing in mpv or exoplayer. * Added feature to export debug logs to troubleshoot possible issues. The feature can be accessed from Home Screen settings (Settings → Advanced). * iOS: Fixed VLC engine. Now it's fully functional. The performance is surprisingly good, matching Android's mpv. * iOS: Fixed crash when changing brightness/volume. ## About translations * You can now contribute to translation via Weblate by visiting [hosted weblate link](https://hosted.weblate.org/projects/syncplay-mobile/) and translating words or adding a language. Contributions are very much welcome! Hopefully this helps reduce situations where languages are missing many words because I happen to be adding/editing strings from time to time. ## Known Issues: - Subtitle size cannot be changed at runtime due to an infrastructural change. This will be addressed in the next version. ## iOS - How to install? - Since the app doesn't exist on the Apple app store (and probably won't for a while), you can sideload it using this guide [here](https://github.com/yuroyami/syncplay-mobile/wiki/How-to-install-the-app-on-iOS).
