SpeakThat! is a free and open-source Android app that reads your incoming notifications out loud using text-to-speech. Unlike alternatives, SpeakThat gives you COMPLETE control over what gets read and what doesn't. Why SpeakThat!? - Open-Source (With the source code available on GitHub, you can verify SpeakThat’s privacy claims and contribute towards it) - 100% Free (SpeakThat is free for everyone. And when I say free - I mean free. No subscriptions, no ads, no purchases of any kind) - Entirely Local (All processing happens on your device. No external servers, no data harvesting, and no AI) - Private Mode (Set individual notifications to Private Mode. This means their app name will be read out, but their notification content won’t) - App Filtering (Decide exactly which apps get read out and which will always remain silent via the Whitelist/Blacklist) - Word Filter (Blacklist certain words to prevent notifications containing them from being read out, or swap words entirely) - Content Cap (Limit readouts to a word count, sentence count, or time limit. Great for obnoxiously long notifications like emails) - URL Handling (Announce web links either in full, their domain name only, or replace all web links with your own custom text) - Custom App Names (If an app name sounds unnatural in speech, swap it with a replacement for readouts... I will not mention any names!) - Voice Options (Full control over pitch, speed, TTS language and audio stream for maximum flexibility) - Shake to Stop (Cancel a readout by shaking your device. The sensitivity can be adjusted to suit your needs) - Wave to Stop (Cover your device’s proximity sensor to cancel ongoing readouts. Search results look good, work consistently, and even allow for small typos. - If you find any settings that were missed, please report them on the GitHub page. Once I'm done crying, I'll add them to the search database. - Added Swipe to Stop - Cancel readouts early by dismissing the notification. - This works very well for smartwatches, allowing you to discreetly cancel readouts from your wrist. - Added Separate Digits - Space consecutive digits out to prevent them being read as one long number. - You can also decide what character is used as a separator. Use a space for a short pause, a comma for a medium pause, or a full-stop for a long pause.

- Added Broadcast to Stop - A new toy for the power users that allows you to stop readouts using a broadcast intent from a third-party app. - A key is required for this, so SpeakThat will generate one for you, which you must enter as an additional value in your automation app. - Fixed SelfTest not recognising Content Cap - Running SelfTest with Content Cap set to a short timed duration so that the test notification doesn't finish caused the SelfTest to hang until it hit its 60-second limit. This has been fixed! #144 - Fixed Conditional Rules not being selected after importing a configuration that uses them - When importing a configuration file with Conditional Rules, they now get re-enabled by default rather than you needing to manually turn it back on. - Fixed Auto-Language not being enabled during settings import - I'm not sure why this option wasn't included when importing a setting configuration, but it is now. Shesh, how many things are missed when importing a configuration? If you find anymore, do let me know. You'll be credited for the fix lol - Fixed Advanced Voice Options showing uninstalled voices - The spinner for selecting a specific voice previously displayed voices that weren't installed on the device. - The Languages section now includes all supported languages, even if only a few lines have been translated. This means languages will be added sooner after completion. - Many settings have been moved to the new Compatibility Settings page, as this reduces confusion for settings that exist purely as workarounds and hacks to correct for Android's weirdness. - WiFi conditions now work correctly! (#67) - Wave to Stop has been updated, adding a new "Wave Hold Time" slider. This lets you decide how long the proximity sensor must be covered to cancel a readout. - URL Handling now handles bare links (any that don't start with "https" or "www") (#63) - SpeakThat's notification channel now defaults to low priority (minimized by default). - TTS engine reporting no language isn't counted as speech failure anymore. ### Fixes: - Setting a whitelisted app to Private mode no longer crashes SpeakThat - SelfTest no longer fails if SpeakThat itself is filtered out for whatever reason (such as SpeakThat not being added to the Whitelist) - Conditional Rules screen is now scrollable so you can read the external automation shortcuts or add new Conditional Rules - Translation links have been changed to link to the SpeakThat website instead of my email, as this is easier to manage - Media Behaviour has been simplified. More details on that below. - TTS Language no longer requires you to have your Speech Format set to "Varied" - Time Schedules in the Conditional Rules now obey what day selection you make ### Media Behaviour Changes: Media Behaviour (found in Behaviour Settings) previously employed some workarounds that allowed it to work on some media apps that didn't allow volume ducking. This meant over-complicating some other parts of the app that have affected users. I have resolved this by changing the media behaviour to what all other notification readers default to, but please note that this WILL CAUSE ISSUES on some media and music player apps like PowerAmp! There is a new switch in the Development Settings to restore the original functionality. **I really recommend setting your Audio Stream Type (in Voice Settings) to Media for simplicity.** ### Installation: 1.
