by Zapstore _@zapstore.dev

A lightweight and customizable home screen (launcher) for Android TV.

Republished from GitHub / F-Droid by the Zapstore main account.

Luncher is made with performance in mind, to run smoothly even on old and weak Android TV devices, and still gives you plenty of customization options to shape it to your taste. Features: - A status bar with the time, the date and the settings, which you can arrange to your liking - Your TV apps as a grid of banners, placed where you want on the screen - Reorder your apps - Hide the apps you don't use, and still reach them quickly from the hidden shelf - Rounded tile corners, from square to pill-shaped On the way: - Your own wallpapers (and maybe a lightweight animated background option) - Your own banners for apps - More appearance settings: tile size and spacing, colors and much more - Folders to group your apps - Wi-Fi, VPN and notifications in the status bar, without ever asking for internet access Application goals: - Instant startup and minimal memory usage - No frameworks or dependencies, just plain Kotlin - No permissions and no internet: no ads, no tracking, no accounts Once installed, Luncher shows up in your TV's list of apps. You can open it from there to try it out, but the Home button on the remote still takes you back to the TV's own launcher. Detailed instructions to make it your default home screen depend on the device model.

    ## What's new ### Wallpapers Set one of your own pictures behind the home screen. Open the **Settings**, then **Appearance**, then **Background**: ![The background editor](https://github.com/CVasilakis/luncher/raw/v0.3.0/fastlane/metadata/android/en-US/images/tvScreenshots/5.png) - **Fit:** Fill the screen, cutting what doesn't fit, or Stretch the picture to it. - **Position:** which part of a filled picture shows: the Center, or a side (top, bottom, left, right).
    - **Dim:** darken the picture, so the apps and the time stand out: Off, Light, Medium or Strong. - **Blur:** soften the picture: Off, Light, Medium or Strong. Hold OK on a picture to rename or delete it, and **Delete all** removes every picture at once. ### Adding pictures Luncher still asks for **no permissions**, so it can't browse your storage. A picture comes in one of two ways: - **Share it:** in a file manager or a gallery on the TV, choose **Share** on a picture (or several, up to 100 at once), then select Luncher. - **Copy it into Luncher's folder,** `Android/media/com.luncher.launcher`, on the TV or on a USB drive, then choose **Add from folder** at the end of the pictures list. Up to Android 14, Luncher can read a picture copied there by another app, without any special permissions. > [!NOTE] > From Android 16 on (Android TV 15 was skipped entirely), Luncher can't read pictures copied into > the `Android/media/com.luncher.launcher` folder by another app. Share the picture instead in this > case. ![Add from folder](https://github.com/CVasilakis/luncher/raw/v0.3.0/fastlane/metadata/android/en-US/images/tvScreenshots/6.png) Once a picture is added (either by sharing or by copying it into the folder above), it is copied into Luncher's own data folder, where the app has normal read/write access and no special permissions are required. Clearing the app's data or uninstalling Luncher will delete all pictures that were previously added. Since Luncher keeps its own copy of each picture, it stays after the original is deleted or the USB drive is removed. This also means that deleting a picture from Luncher will not affect the original on the TV or USB drive.

    ## What's new ### Appearance settings Open the settings, then **Appearance**. A preview shows each change as you make it. A dimmed option has no effect with the current settings. ![The Tiles options](https://github.com/CVasilakis/luncher/raw/v0.2.0/.github/release-notes/v0.2.0/tiles.png) **Tiles**
    More…
    - **Vertical alignment:** the rows of apps at the top, the center or the bottom of the screen. - **Horizontal alignment:** the row that isn't full at the left, the center or the right. - **Full bottom row:** keeps the bottom row full, with the shorter row above the others. Only with the rows centered or at the bottom. - **Corner radius:** from square (0 dp) to 32 dp, or Pill for fully round ends. ![The Status bar options](https://github.com/CVasilakis/luncher/raw/v0.2.0/.github/release-notes/v0.2.0/status-bar.png) **Status bar** - **Time** and **Date:** shown or hidden. - **Side:** the time and the date on the left or the right, the settings gear on the other side. - **Order:** the time or the date first. Only when both are shown. ### A new default look The apps now start at the bottom of the screen, centered, with rounded corners. ### Apps show up right away Apps you install, update or remove, and apps you hide or show in **Hide apps**, now show up on the home screen at once.
