Sky Map helps you identify stars, planets, nebulae, and constellations in real-time. Originally developed as Google Sky Map, it is now open source. ### Find us online: ⭐ **Official Website:** [stardroid.app](https://www.google.com/url?q=https%3A%2F%2Fstardroid.app&sa=D&sntz=1&usg=AOvVaw3w69uzGKQ1CQcoIGk5Je9I) ⭐ **Open Source:** [Contribute on GitHub](https://www.google.com/url?q=https%3A%2F%2Fgithub.com%2Fsky-map-team%2Fstardroid&sa=D&sntz=1&usg=AOvVaw1foUW9WBiqT0pzGIjx1T94) ⭐ **Join the Community:**     • [Facebook @stardroidapp](https://www.google.com/url?q=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fgroups%2Fstardroidapp%2F&sa=D&sntz=1&usg=AOvVaw0HsQUbfpzWdjEV9PS61s7z)     • [X @skymapdevs](http://www.google.com/url?q=http%3A%2F%2Fx.com%2Fskymapdevs&sa=D&sntz=1&usg=AOvVaw3Me_QaYi-HRvXGi4Fbn3-b) ### App permissions: Sky Map has **no required permissions**. Each permission below is optional — you may refuse any of them and still use the app. Nothing is requested at startup; each is asked for only when you first use the feature that needs it, and each can be withdrawn separately in your device settings. ⭐ **Location (optional)** — used to draw the sky for where you are. Refuse it and you can enter a place name or coordinates by hand instead. Your location never leaves your device. ⭐ **Camera (optional)** — used only by through-camera mode, which overlays the sky on the live camera view. Refuse it and every other mode works as normal. The image is never recorded or transmitted. ⭐ **Notifications (optional)** — used only to tell you about meteor-shower peaks and tonight's sky, if you ask for them. They stay off until you turn them on.

    locales. Shipped in 2.0.7. (#1048)
  • Sep 18, 2026 2.0.7:Apollo
<img src="https://raw.githubusercontent.com/sky-map-team/stardroid/4481b277000b2175b756dfea1cb194005613c114/stardroid-v2/assets/release-icons/2.0.3_apollo_icon.png" width="80" alt="Apollo" /> ### Added - New off-by-default alt/az grid layer, alongside the existing celestial grid. (#1022, #1038) - The diagnostics report sent from "Send to developers" now includes richer sensor and pointing-jitter data. (#1043) - Galician (gl) translation added. (#1031) ### Changed
    More…
    - Sensor smoothing now uses a 1€ filter instead of SLERP, tuned for both the gyro and legacy sensor paths — steadier while still, more responsive while moving. (#1026) - Manual location entry now uses N/S/E/W hemisphere buttons instead of a sign toggle. (#1023, #1025) - Search now ranks the Sun, Moon and planets above stars when they match. (#1042) - minSdk dropped to 28; Android 9 is now supported on a best-effort basis. (#1041) ### Fixed - Region-only Chinese locale tags (e.g. zh-CN without a script subtag) now resolve to the correct Han script in the catalog's locale fallback chain. (#1040) - Fixed a crash in the search dialog's focus handling. (#1020)
  • Sep 12, 2026 2.0.5:Apollo

(#1013, closes #1003) - Fixed illegible N/S/E/W/zenith/nadir labels blending into the horizon glow. (#1018, closes #1014) ### Changed
    More…
    - The legacy (non-gyro) sensor path now smooths the fused orientation with the same quaternion smoother as the rotation-vector path, instead of smoothing the accelerometer and magnetometer separately beforehand — the two no longer drift out of sync with each other during motion. (#1011)

    - M65/M66 no longer lose their primary catalog label to the shared Leo Triplet alias. - The horizon leveller keeps running until a fling actually stops, instead of stopping early. - The warm welcome and terms screens now lay out correctly in landscape. ### Changed - Catalog text now follows the app's selected language, not just resource strings.
  • Sep 1, 2026 2.0.0-beta07:Louise
<img src="https://raw.githubusercontent.com/sky-map-team/stardroid/46f385c09c1e5316d664bbe94e582480547c5e18/stardroid-v2/assets/release-icons/2.0.0-beta07_louise_icon.png" width="80" alt="Louise" /> _Pre-release development build of the Sky Map v2 rewrite, not a stable release._ ### Added - Full translation coverage across all 28 core languages. - Per-app language support (`android:localeConfig`), letting users pick Sky Map's language independently of the device's system language on Android 13+.

  • Aug 13, 2026 1.18.1:Eclipse
<img src="https://raw.githubusercontent.com/sky-map-team/stardroid/e85201dcb231780767c993995460e6e40c471a91/stardroid-v1/assets/splashscreens/1_18_0_eclipse_icon.png" width="80" alt="Eclipse" /> ### Fixed - Sun and Moon position accuracy: the Moon's low-precision D22 series (~0.3°) is replaced with the full Meeus ch. 47 series (ELP2000-82 truncated), and the Sun's truncated Keplerian elements (~0.37° off, no aberration/nutation) are replaced with its Meeus ch. 25 apparent position (~0.01°). Both now run on Terrestrial Time via a shared `TimeUtils.julianCenturiesTerrestrial` and in double precision throughout. Eclipse maximum timing, previously off by up to ~30 minutes, now matches published times to within a minute ([#958](https://github.com/sky-map-team/stardroid/pull/958), [#957](https://github.com/sky-map-team/stardroid/issues/957))
  • Aug 9, 2026 1.18.0:Eclipse
<img src="https://raw.githubusercontent.com/sky-map-team/stardroid/57501506d80c98d10961e14b84e2bfe20a8bc89e/stardroid-v1/assets/splashscreens/1_18_0_eclipse_icon.png" width="80" alt="Eclipse" /> Together, the two `#954` changes below let you preview how much of the Sun will be obscured from your location during a solar eclipse, including the total eclipse of 12 August 2026. ### Added - A **Show true-to-life sizes** setting (off by default) that renders the Sun, Moon, and planets at their real computed angular size instead of the fixed, exaggerated-for-visibility constants, so eclipses render to scale. Size is recomputed every frame — decoupled from the per-body position-update throttle — so the setting takes effect immediately and the Moon's size tracks its continuously changing distance ([#954](https://github.com/sky-map-team/stardroid/pull/954)) ### Fixed
    More…
    - The Moon's position used only geocentric coordinates, ignoring the observer's location on Earth (diurnal parallax) and causing errors of up to ~1° — roughly two lunar diameters. Added `Universe`/`Moon.getTopocentricRaDec` and switched the renderer to use it ([#954](https://github.com/sky-map-team/stardroid/pull/954)) - Overlapping sky map labels are now detected and offset, keeping crowded regions readable ([#944](https://github.com/sky-map-team/stardroid/pull/944), [#764](https://github.com/sky-map-team/stardroid/issues/764)) - Deep-sky object icons sporadically failed to render: `ImageObjectManager` only sized its texture arrays in the `fullReload` branch of `reload()`, but layers loading data asynchronously take the partial path ([#952](https://github.com/sky-map-team/stardroid/pull/952)) - Vega's Simplified Chinese label identified it as Alpha Aquilae (`天鹰座 α`) rather than Alpha Lyrae (`天琴座 α`) ([#951](https://github.com/sky-map-team/stardroid/pull/951)) ### Changed - Redrew the stars and constellations sidebar icons, which previously reused the platform favorite and share glyphs and were easy to confuse ([#955](https://github.com/sky-map-team/stardroid/pull/955)) - Removed the dead `show_planetary_images` point-primitive fallback path, which had no UI ever wired to it ([#954](https://github.com/sky-map-team/stardroid/pull/954))

  • Apr 12, 2026 1.13.3:Mars
    ### Added - **Two black holes** — Cygnus X-1 and Sagittarius A* are now in the Sky Map catalog ([#771](https://github.com/sky-map-team/stardroid/pull/771)) - **Time travel in overflow menu** — the time travel option now appears directly in the overflow menu, making it discoverable without knowing the toolbar icon; icons added to all overflow menu items ([#770](https://github.com/sky-map-team/stardroid/pull/770)) - **Double-tap to freeze/unfreeze auto-level horizon** — in manual mode, a double-tap now toggles horizon leveling on/off without opening Settings; the preference is still available for users who want a persistent setting
    More…
([#788](https://github.com/sky-map-team/stardroid/pull/788)) ### Changed - **Gallery redesigned** — replaced the sideways-scrolling list with a grid layout that integrates with info cards for a much improved browsing experience ([#778](https://github.com/sky-map-team/stardroid/pull/778), [#779](https://github.com/sky-map-team/stardroid/pull/779)) - **"Messier objects" renamed to "Deep sky objects"** — the catalog of nebulae, clusters, and galaxies is now labelled more accurately throughout the app ([#772](https://github.com/sky-map-team/stardroid/pull/772)) - **EULA shortened** — the in-app EULA is now a friendly summary with a link to the full text; translated into core languages - **Translations** — Brazilian Portuguese help, EULA, and info cards updated ([#783](https://github.com/sky-map-team/stardroid/pull/783)); Polish HTML formatting fixed ([#781](https://github.com/sky-map-team/stardroid/pull/781)); language-apology strings removed for primary languages that are now nearly fully translated ### Fixed - **Info cards not responding to taps** — fixed a scoping bug that broke tap-to-navigate on info cards - **Night mode not applied to overflow menu** — menu items now correctly use night-mode colours ([#780](https://github.com/sky-map-team/stardroid/pull/780)) ## New Contributors * @utafrali made their first contribution in https://github.com/sky-map-team/stardroid/pull/653 * @izzietaylor123 made their first contribution in https://github.com/sky-map-team/stardroid/pull/750 **Full Changelog**: https://github.com/sky-map-team/stardroid/compare/v.1.11.1...v1.13.3
