Private, offline speech-to-text for your keyboard. Your voice stays on device.

Republished from GitHub / F-Droid by the Zapstore main account.

Marmalade STT turns your speech into text on your phone. Use it as the voice input of your keyboard (FUTO Keyboard, HeliBoard, FlorisBoard and others), and of apps that ask Android for speech input. Your voice never leaves the device. - **Private.** Speech is recognized on the phone. Audio is never saved or uploaded - **Offline.** After a one-time download of a speech engine, it works without a connection - **Live text.** Shows your words in real time as you speak, on most engines - **Knows when you're done.** Smart Turn, the default for the speak-now popup, waits until you sound finished, so a pause to think rarely cuts you off - **Multilingual.** 100 languages, with the best engine for yours picked automatically - **Clean output.** Filler words removed, numbers as digits, your own replacements and verbal snippets - **Free and open source.** No ads, no accounts, no analytics **PRIVATE BY DESIGN** No analytics, no tracking, no crash reporting, no accounts, and no server of ours. The internet is used only to download the speech engines you choose, from GitHub, and every file is checked against a pinned SHA-256 hash. Android backup is turned off, so nothing is copied to the cloud. **YOU DECIDE WHEN IT STOPS** In the speak-now popup and other apps, Marmalade uses Smart Turn v3 technology by default to detect when you have finished speaking. No hands required. Does it cut you off too early? Switch to stopping at a pause, or set an end word instead. On the keyboard it listens until you tap, or it can use Smart Turn too. **CLEAN TEXT** Optional cleanup fixes capitals, and in English removes filler words, turns "new line" and "period" into the real thing and writes numbers as digits. Replacements for names the engine gets wrong, and snippets for text you type often, work in any language. **WORKS WITH YOUR KEYBOARD** Turn on "Marmalade voice typing" and your keyboard's mic key opens a small Marmalade panel that types what you say. It works with FUTO Keyboard, HeliBoard, FlorisBoard, AnySoftKeyboard, Unexpected Keyboard, AOSP's keyboard and others with a voice key. **AN ENGINE THAT SUITS YOUR PHONE** The setup guide recommends a speech engine for your language and for your phone's memory and speed, with the option to download and try out other models. **LANGUAGES** Fast engines cover English, Bulgarian, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Estonian, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hungarian, Italian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Maltese, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish, Swedish, Ukrainian, Japanese, Hindi, Arabic and Vietnamese. Chinese and Korean get Qwen3-ASR, lighter than Whisper. Other languages work through Whisper Large v3 Turbo, with more delay. **OPEN SOURCE** Marmalade STT is MIT licensed. If you'd like to support it, Settings → Support links to GitHub Sponsors; the app is the same either way.

  • Oct 21, 2026 1.1.0
Marmalade STT 1.1.0 fixes apps that use Android's speech recognizer, such as Duolingo's speaking exercises, and lets Qwen3-ASR be picked for all 30 of its languages. **Fixed** - Apps that use Android's speech recognizer failed at once ("could not recognize the input") whenever Marmalade STT was the phone's speech recognition service, on Android 12 and later (#1). Android refused the microphone because our app was in the background; Marmalade STT now opens it on behalf of the app that asked. - Starting speech recognition again right after cancelling it no longer fails as "busy" while the speech model is still loading. - The settings button next to Marmalade STT in Android's voice input and keyboard settings opens the app's Settings tab instead of Dictate. **Added** - Apps that ask for a language get it: if your current engine doesn't recognize it, another downloaded engine that does is used for that request; if none does, the app is told the language isn't available. - Apps can hand Marmalade STT their own audio to transcribe (Android 13 and later), kept in memory only.
    - No app can keep the microphone or the speech engine busy indefinitely: a request using the microphone stops after 10 minutes, and an app's own audio stops after 10 seconds without (almost) any or after an hour. What was heard is still transcribed. - Your own use wins: starting the voice keyboard, Dictate or the speak-now sheet while another app is using the recognizer ends that app's request instead of showing you "busy". - More of Android's speech-recognizer options are honoured (number of results, partial results, the pause that ends speech, a minimum listening time), and apps can ask which languages are installed. **Changed** - Qwen3-ASR can be picked for all 30 of its languages, English included, not just Chinese and Korean. The setup guide's recommendations don't change. **Which APK?** Most phones: `marmalade-stt-1.1.0-arm64-v8a.apk`. Older 32-bit phones: `marmalade-stt-1.1.0-armeabi-v7a.apk`. Android 9 or later. Both are signed with the same key as 1.0.0 and 1.0.1, so they install over them. Full list of changes: CHANGELOG.md.
  • Oct 17, 2026 1.0.1
Marmalade STT 1.0.1 fixes the reproducible build, so F-Droid can publish the 32-bit ARM version. - F-Droid's build of 1.0.0 for 32-bit ARM (armeabi-v7a) differed from ours only in the precompiled ART startup profile (`assets/dexopt/baseline.prof` and `baseline.profm`), which the Android build tools don't produce the same way on every machine. The APKs no longer include that profile. Android now learns which code to compile ahead of time on the phone itself, so the first few launches after installing or updating can be slightly slower. - Nothing else changed. **Which APK?** Most phones: `marmalade-stt-1.0.1-arm64-v8a.apk`. Older 32-bit phones: `marmalade-stt-1.0.1-armeabi-v7a.apk`. Android 9 or later. Both are signed with the same key as 1.0.0, so they install over it. Full list of changes: CHANGELOG.md.
