Ombra

Turtlecute turtlecute@primal.net Fast, private Android client for Obscura VPN (unofficial). Two-hop WireGuard.
An independent Android client for [Obscura VPN](https://obscura.net), built for speed and privacy: a native Jetpack Compose app on top of the upstream Obscura Rust core, with our own patches. Ombra is not made by Obscura. Android 16 or newer, arm64. - **Three protocols**: Stealth (WireGuard in QUIC), Speed (WireGuard over UDP) and TCP/TLS, through the two-hop Obscura relay. - **Faster data path**: in our tests, downloads are about 9x faster than with the official app (estimate). - **Control**: choose the entry relay and the exit, DNS content blocking, split tunnelling, kill switch status and a Quick Settings tile. - **Privacy**: no analytics, no crash reporting, no Google Play Services. The WireGuard key is encrypted with an Android Keystore key and rotates every 30 days, every day or at each connect. Referral: when you create an account, a switch (on by default) adds the Obscura referral code of the Ombra developer. Turn the switch off, and Ombra sends no referral. A login with an existing account never sends one.

- Oct 31, 2026 0.2.9Ombra 0.2.9: a smaller APK, correct texts about when a change applies, and fixes for the keyboard on Settings pages and for the connection details sheet. Android 16 or newer, arm64. `Ombra-0.2.9.apk` is signed with the Ombra release key and installs as an update over 0.2.8. ## Changed - The APK is about 1 MB smaller: 13.1 MB, before 14.1 MB. The Rust core now uses packed relocations, and the APK no longer has the translated texts of the libraries or one library that no code uses. - The labels that come from the libraries (for example for TalkBack) are now in English, as the rest of the app. Country names stay in the language of your phone. - Settings > Connection: in Stealth mode, the page no longer tells that the Stealth options apply from the next connect. A change while connected reconnects at once, as the note at the top of the page tells. - Settings > Advanced: the note now tells that the SNI host and the API host both apply at once. A new SNI host reconnects a Stealth or TCP/TLS tunnel.

- Locations > Entry relay: when Ombra has no relay list, the text now tells you to load it from Obscura. ## Fixed - On the Settings pages DNS, Advanced and Debug bundle, the field that you type in now stays above the keyboard. On Debug bundle the button, and on DNS the error text, can stay under the keyboard until you scroll one time. - The connection details sheet no longer opens again by itself. Before, if the tunnel went down while the sheet was open, the sheet opened again at the next connect. - If the VPN service stops, the Connect screen no longer shows "Protected" for a tunnel that is gone. The app shows the start screen until the VPN service is available again. ## Privacy and security - On a full disk, a connect no longer stops the VPN service with a crash. Before, an always-on start on a full disk could crash again and again, and without "Block connections without VPN" your traffic could go out of the tunnel. - The VPN service no longer records if the network is mobile data, if Private DNS is on, or the MTU of the network. No part of Ombra used these values. The Private DNS warning does not change. - The Rust core has no new patch. Only its link options changed. ## Install | File | Use | SHA-256 | |---|---|---| | `Ombra-0.2.9.apk` | Release build, signed. | `0e8689c32ab059d0b1a863145a6845e7de177d680d352627a793a6d167ab56bb` | | `Ombra-0.2.9-crypto-library-sources.tar.gz` | Source of the crypto libraries that the APK links. | `0c5d63c1a7feb24e5b939fd3ab600bc97704a3bac544a7761a97987aef20357b` | - Certificate SHA-256: `484d7a1d0cc09100bde5e509d5c6050c7d75a43ba90a2b31e139ed02e70efb91` ## Source GPL-3.0-only.
