Peer-to-peer parental controls - manage screen time without a middleman

PearGuard is a private, peer-to-peer parental control app. A parent device manages screen time and app access on a child device directly, with no server, no account and no third party in the middle. Features: - Screen time limits and bedtime windows - Per-app allow, block or time-limit policies - Activity view on the parent device - Child-initiated time requests, approved from the parent device - Pair via QR code or invite link - Fully offline-capable - your family's data stays on your devices

    ## What's Changed ### ✨ New Features - Allow new apps automatically: a new switch in Settings lets apps your child installs be allowed straight away instead of waiting for your approval. Off by default, and you are still told about every new app and can block it. - Lock for a set time: locking a device now offers 30 minutes, 1 hour or 2 hours as well as "until I unlock". The device frees itself when the time is up, and both of you can see when that will be.

    - Unpairing no longer throws your rules away. Schedules, limits and blocked apps are kept, so if you pair the device again you can put them all back from the child's Advanced tab. - If your phone is lost for good, your child's device is no longer stuck. With your PIN they can start removing supervision, but it takes a full day, you are told straight away and you can stop it with one tap. ### ✨ Improvements - You can now see when a rule change has not reached your child's phone yet. Their card says it is waiting for the phone instead of looking like everything is up to date. - A request you have not answered within a day no longer blocks your child from asking again. They are told nobody answered, and you can still say yes afterwards. - Uses far less data. Your child's phone no longer sends app icons every time you change a rule, and no longer resends its entire app list each time it reconnects to you. - Easier on the battery when your child is offline, and their phone no longer holds on to stale status updates to deliver later. ### πŸ› Bug Fixes - Extra time you approve while your child's phone is offline now reaches them. It used to run out before it arrived, while both screens said it was approved. - Rule changes stick. Reconnecting could quietly put your rules back to an older version, re-announce apps as newly installed and leave later changes silently ignored. - Two changes made at the same moment no longer overwrite each other. - Alerts survive you being offline. If enforcement was switched off on your child's device, or they used the PIN while you were unreachable, you hear about it when you reconnect. - Usage lands on the right day when you and your child are in different time zones. Their most recent day could be missing from your reports entirely. - A second parent's PIN is accepted everywhere in the app, not only on the block screen.

    ## What's Changed ### ✨ Improvements - staying connected away from home: if your child is on mobile data or a network that blocks direct connections, PearGuard now routes through a helper so alerts still arrive and rule changes still reach them. It always tries the direct connection first and only falls back when it has to, and nothing readable passes through the helper. - a new Connection section in Settings shows whether the helper is being used and lets you turn the fallback off for your own device if you prefer. - Settings is easier to find your way around: the page is now grouped under Your profile, What your children see, This device and Data, instead of one long list of equal-looking sections.

    ### πŸ› Bug Fixes - changes in Settings now save the moment you make them, with a confirmation right next to what you changed. Previously the time request and warning options only saved if you scrolled to the bottom and tapped Save Settings, so a change you made and walked away from was quietly lost.

    ## What's Changed ### ✨ Improvements - quick setup by age: pick Young child, Pre-teen, Teen or Allowlist only and get a sensible starting set of limits, categories and a bedtime instead of building it by hand - time windows per app: say "games only 4pm to 6pm" or "social blocked during school hours" for a single app, on the days you choose - free time: pause every rule for an hour, a few hours or the rest of the day for a sick day, a trip or a reward, then protection turns itself back on - give bonus screen time whenever you like, straight from the dashboard or the child's page, without waiting for your child to ask - blocking on Android is faster and easier on the battery

    ### πŸ› Bug Fixes - overnight bedtimes set for certain days now cover the whole night, instead of blocking the morning and leaving the small hours free - your child's daily screen time now counts every app they use, not only the ones already listed in your rules - winding a computer's clock or timezone back no longer hands back screen time that was already used, and you get told when it happens - changing the clock just after switching Wi-Fi on or off is now spotted as tampering - a child's computer that restarts while you are offline now keeps enforcing your rules straight away, instead of allowing everything until you next connect - you are now told when protection fails to start, gets stuck or stops watching on your child's computer, rather than the dashboard quietly showing everything as fine - you are also told when the protection service on an Android device is switched on but not actually running - a newly installed app is now held for your approval instead of being freely usable until you next connect - apps whose name happens to contain "sms", "dialer" or "messaging", such as Signal, are no longer exempt from every rule - a blocked child can no longer get back in by opening an invite meant for someone else - extra time you approve now reaches your child even if their device was offline at the time - pairing no longer sits on "Connecting to child..." forever, and an invite link opened twice no longer counts twice - a second parent is no longer removed by mistake when two parents share a name - apps your child uninstalls now disappear from your rules instead of lingering - the block screen now updates when your rules change, so a locked device can no longer offer a way out of the lock - activity is filed under the day it actually happened, even across midnight or a timezone difference - names and messages with accents or emoji are no longer scrambled or silently dropped - Linux apps no longer show up twice in your rules - fixed a blank or frozen screen when opening the app, or returning to it after a while - alerts and updates are no longer lost if the screen reloads behind the scenes - the app no longer hangs waiting for a reply that never comes, and recovers on its own - storage on a paired computer no longer grows without limit, and old bonus-time records are tidied away ### πŸ”§ Other - Windows and Linux builds are now produced in one place, so both stay in step
