Play human-like chess offline and review your games with Maia and Stockfish

**By Maia fans, for Maia fans.** Mobile Maia is a community project for playing and studying chess with Maia on Android. It will always be free, never show ads, and always remain open source. The app uses the human-like Maia-3 79M model from the University of Toronto’s Computational Social Science Lab for play and analysis, alongside Stockfish for comparison and game review. Everything runs locally on your phone, without an account or Internet connection. Pick a Maia rating from 600 to 2600, then review your game with Maia and Stockfish to explore what you could have played. There are no subscriptions or daily analysis limits. **Play at your own pace** - Choose your side and play with a clock or without a time limit. - Adjust Maia's move variety and optional human-like pauses. Keep varied openings before switching to your chosen settings. - Take back moves, play rematches and return to saved unfinished games. **Understand your games** - Compare the moves Maia thinks people would play with Stockfish's suggestions. You can compare two Maia ratings side by side. - Review a whole game with an evaluation graph, accuracy scores and move annotations. - Explore positions and variations, then continue playing from a position you choose. **Keep your chess on your phone** - Open PGN games or FEN positions, and save or share PGN files with comments and variations. - Browse recent games and look up opening names offline. - Choose from ten interface languages. - Optionally export Maia’s actual move probabilities and choices in a readable offline report. **Experimental Chessnut support** Chessnut Air and Go boards can connect over Bluetooth for untimed games from the standard starting position, with lights showing Maia's moves. Other Chessnut models have not been confirmed. **Before you download** The download is several hundred megabytes because the Maia-3 79M model is included for offline use. Maia's rating setting guides the human moves it predicts; it is not a guaranteed playing strength. Mobile Maia is an independent community project, licensed under AGPL-3.0-only. It uses the Maia-3 79M model from the University of Toronto’s Computational Social Science Lab and Stockfish. Its chess interface and app development philosophy are informed by Lichess. Game Review’s move-classification and sacrifice-detection logic is adapted from En Croissant. It is not an official Maia Chess, University of Toronto CSSLab, Lichess, Stockfish, En Croissant or Chessnut app.

    # Mobile Maia 2.4 More opening variety, new ways to explore Maia’s choices, and smoother play on your phone or Chessnut board. - **Max variety in opening.** This optional setting uses Temperature and Top-P of 1.0 for the first five moves, then switches to your chosen settings from move 6. Enjoy varied openings while using lower settings for later play. Inspired by [Maia3-tauri](https://github.com/outusuke/maia3-tauri) by outusuke. - **Explore how Maia chooses its moves.** Optionally save Maia’s choices and probabilities, then export a readable offline HTML report or full JSONL research data. Reports include board diagrams, move arrows and plain-language odds, using the probabilities that actually applied during play. The latest ten recorded games are retained, subject to a storage limit. - **Clearer settings and explanations.** Settings are organized into sections, with revised help across all ten languages. Resetting settings now asks for confirmation and preserves saved games and sampling data. - **Optional move history.** Let Maia consider up to seven previous positions. This remains experimental, and leaving it off is recommended. - **Better Chessnut play.** Improved discovery, remembered board selection, named connection messages and reconnect handling. Press the board’s NEW GAME button twice within 2.5 seconds to reset without leaving the game screen. Colors stay the same, and LED guidance helps you reset the pieces before play resumes. The double-press NEW GAME behavior was inspired by [MoveAPiece](https://github.com/egdels/moveapiece) by egdels. - **Smoother premoves and analysis.** Queued premove pieces stay in place as moves are played. Long opening names offer details without shifting the layout, and Home returns correctly from restored post-game analysis.

The Maia3 79M model, Stockfish engine and default sampling settings remain unchanged. DGT Pegasus and Square Off Grand Kingdom remain experimental Dev-only projects and are **not enabled in this release**. Free, open source and offline, as always. ## Installation Install `Mobile-Maia-v2.4.0.apk` over the existing Stable app; do not uninstall first. Preview and Dev are separate apps. Existing Stable games and settings are preserved. ## Verification and stores The attached verification evidence records the exact source, CI and dependency checks, native engine and upgrade tests, independent F-Droid build and scans, matching unsigned APKs, and signing checks. These checks do not certify every physical phone or Chessnut board. GitHub, Zapstore and F-Droid publication are tracked separately in the distribution record linked below. F-Droid’s catalog updates on its own build and publication schedule. [Distribution status and verification](https://github.com/Dash1971/maia-chess-android/pull/54#issuecomment-6233972011).
