SummaReader
sk.dataiza.summareaderFollow feeds, articles, YouTube, Mastodon and Nostr; read and summarize on your device.
SummaReader pulls in what you follow — RSS and Atom feeds, web pages, YouTube channels, Mastodon, Nostr — extracts the readable article from each, keeps it, and can summarize it. - Summarization runs on the device by default, with a model you download once. You can point it at your own server or a cloud API instead. - Sync is optional, end-to-end encrypted, and self-hosted. The sync server holds only ciphertext. - No accounts. No analytics. No telemetry. No crash reporting. This is the free build, and it is a complete reader: no limit on how many sources you follow. Premium is a separate application and is not listed here. Android builds are arm64 only. This build and the Google Play build are signed with different keys; Android will not replace one with the other.

Releases
- Oct 21, 2026 0.124.0**Space marks an article read or unread.** Space now does the same as `m`, in the list and with an article open. With an article open it does not scroll the article; PgDn does that. **The list answers while older items load.** While **Load older items** ran on a playlist or a channel, the list and the shelf stopped answering until it finished. The app saved each video's transcript one line at a time and kept the library busy the whole time. It now saves a transcript in one step, so a click on a source or a playlist shows its articles during the load. Checks that read videos are faster for the same reason.
- Oct 21, 2026 0.123.0**Each change syncs at once while the app is open.** A change made on this device, such as an article read or saved, waited for the next **How often** tick, and coming back to the app did not sync at all. Now, while the app is on the screen, each change syncs within a few seconds, and coming back to the app syncs once. **How often** applies in the background. The new switch is **Configuration › Advanced › Sync › When to sync › Sync each change while the app is open**, and it is on by default. **Only when I ask** still syncs only when you ask, and the Wi-Fi-only and battery rules still apply. The schedule controls moved from the Sync section to the new **When to sync** section. **The Configuration pages are written in Simplified Technical English.** The English text on every Configuration page now uses short sentences, one instruction in each, and one word for one thing: source, server and device. Some labels and section titles changed, for example **Sources at once** is now **Sources at the same time**, **This machine** is now **This device** and **Keep** is now **Storage time**. A section that you folded shut opens again one time if its title changed. The other languages are unchanged.
- Oct 21, 2026 0.122.0**The overview asks for three sentences by default.** With no length set in Configuration, on a group or on a source, a summary's overview asked for six to eight sentences. It now asks for three; the key points still carry the detail. A length you have set is unchanged, and summaries already made stay as they are. **A page refused with a bare 403 is opened in the web engine.** Some sites refuse the app's requests with a short "403 Forbidden" and serve the article to a browser. Only a 403 that showed a browser check went to the system web engine before, so such an article was marked unreachable and never read. Every 403 is now tried there. A page that still has no text afterwards stays unreachable and is tried again later, rather than being written off.
- Oct 20, 2026 0.121.0**Keep everything on this device downloads the whole backlog while the app is open.** Each sync spent at most the time in **Spend at most**, eight seconds by default, and took words before pictures. After a large sync the time ended before any picture, so an article opened later waited a few seconds for its picture. While the app is open, the download now continues in the background until nothing is left. It stops when the app goes to the background, and it obeys the Wi-Fi-only sync setting.
- Oct 18, 2026 0.120.1**Configuration, Saved and Search close the shelf again with multi-select on.** On a phone, with multi-select switched on, these opened behind the shelf, and every source pressed after that was added to the filter with the shelf still open. Going to one of them now turns multi-select off. The multi-select and Show unread buttons still leave the shelf open.
- Oct 18, 2026 0.120.0**A podcast feed is followed, whatever its address looks like.** A feed shared or pasted from an address with no `/feed`, `/rss` or `.xml` in it, such as `feeds.megaphone.fm/<show>`, was kept as an empty page. Addresses on feed hosts (`feeds.…`, `feed.…`, `rss.…`) are now followed, and a saved page that turns out to be a feed is followed instead. **Follow the source** on such an address works too; it could not find the feed before. **Two buttons in the Add window.** When the address is a source — a feed, a channel or an author — the window shows **Follow the source** and **Save the page**, so the choice is made before the add rather than in a toast after it. A page keeps its single button. The hint under the address no longer runs off the edge of the window. **Search finds an item by its address.** An item with no title, such as a page whose text could not be read, is found by its address. **The shelf on a phone.** Add, and the feed, group and tag panels, opened behind the shelf when started from it; the shelf now closes so they are in front. Turning **Select several** off no longer closes the shelf.
- Oct 18, 2026 0.119.3**A post's picture is shown.** A short post that is a few words and one link to a picture, such as "GM" and a photo, now shows the picture in the list and the reader, not only its address. **Nostr posts carry their author's picture.** A Nostr note or article with no picture of its own shows its author's profile picture. A long-form article's own cover image, or the one picture a note links to, comes first.
- Oct 18, 2026 0.119.2**Back on a phone returns to the list.** On Android, the system Back button or gesture in Configuration, Search or Saved closed the app. It now returns to the list; only Back on the list closes the app.
- Oct 18, 2026 0.119.1**Links in the reader open when clicked.** In 0.119.0 a click on an address often did nothing: the reader redraws itself all the time, and a redraw between pressing and releasing the button lost the click. The link now keeps the click. **The kind buttons count everything.** The Video, Feed, Nostr and Telegram buttons above the list counted only the page that was loaded, so a kind outside the newest items, such as Telegram, had no button and the others showed wrong numbers. Each now counts every item the other filters match. **The next source follows the one you just read.** After marking every item of a source read, the next-source key went to the top of the sidebar, because the source had just been hidden. It now goes to the source after it. **Much less reading from the database.** A list reload read about 280 MB of the library and a sync about 60 MB, after every item read. They now read a fraction of a megabyte. A sync started by your own change no longer runs a second time.
- Oct 17, 2026 0.119.0**A Mac download.** The public release now has `SummaReader-free-<version>.dmg`: the free app signed with a Developer ID and notarized by Apple, so a Mac opens it without a warning. Open the disk image and drag the app to Applications. **Addresses in the reader are links.** An address written in an article, its overview, points or glossary, the feed's excerpt or Details opens when clicked. Right-click it, or tap and hold, for Open and Copy address. Dragging across a link still selects the text. **Choose the Nostr relays.** Configuration › Basic › Fetching › Nostr relays lists the relays asked for each author's relay list and profile. Add your own, remove one, or go back to the built-in four. It shows when the library has a Nostr source, and a change applies at the next check. **Syncing reads less.** Each sync counted what was waiting by reading whole tables, about 20 MB per table on a large library. It now reads only the records still waiting to go.
- Oct 17, 2026 0.118.1**A Telegram group is refused for the right reason.** Adding a public Telegram group said the channel was not public. It now says that it is a group, by its name, and that Telegram shows posts on the web only for public channels. A private channel says that it is private, or does not exist. **The guide says how to start syncing.** The Sync section now links the sync server's releases page, says which file to take, and walks through connecting the first device: the device token, the server address and the certificate fingerprint.
- Oct 17, 2026 0.118.0**Follow Nostr authors.** Paste an `npub` or `nprofile`. The app finds the relays the author writes to, and at each check reads their long-form articles and short notes, not replies. It keeps a post only when its signature is valid and it comes from the author you follow. An edited article stays one item. **Follow public Telegram channels.** Paste a `t.me/<channel>` link. The app reads the channel's public web page, about twenty posts at each check. A private channel or a group is refused, because it has no public page. **A post with no title is named after its source.** A Nostr note or a Telegram post gets the source's name and the time it was published, for example `Telegram News, 2026-05-14 16:08`. **Short texts are not summarized on their own.** Configuration › Basic › Summaries › Summarizing › Minimum text length (300 characters by default) marks a shorter text as too short when summaries run automatically, and shows it whole. 0 turns this off. Summarize in the reader still works on any text. **A short post that links an article gets the article summarized.** When a Mastodon, Nostr or Telegram post is shorter than the minimum and has exactly one link, the app reads the linked article and summarizes that. The post shows above the summary. If the article cannot be read, the post stays.

**Podcast transcripts.** When a podcast feed links a transcript for an episode, the app reads the transcript instead of the show notes and summarizes it. VTT, SRT, JSON, HTML and plain-text transcripts are read. **Privacy policy.** It now names the Nostr relays and `t.me` among the places the app contacts, for the sources you follow there. - Oct 17, 2026 0.117.0**On-device summaries keep their shape.** A llama.cpp model is now held to the summary's JSON while it writes, so it can no longer answer in Markdown, or put a list where a sentence belongs, and lose the points or the tags. Gemma 4 models get this too. It costs a little speed: about a tenth on a 3B model. **A summary written in Markdown is read, not thrown away.** When a model that cannot be held to JSON answers with headings instead, the summary, the points, the tags and the glossary are read from those headings, and the model is not asked again. **Typed numbers are saved when you leave the field.** Section size and both Context window fields in Configuration › Advanced › On-device model › Models on this device were saved after every key, so typing 13312 stored 2048 for a moment. They are now saved when you leave the field, press Enter, close the page, or switch to another app. **Better traces of slow phone summaries.** A trace now says how many processor threads a summary used, how long the app spent on each written token, and how much memory it held when the screen first froze.
