Offline Music is an Android music player based on ArchiveTune. It starts in your library, searches songs already on your device, and can search saved lyrics alongside song, artist, album, and playlist names. When an online song begins playing, Offline Music requests a download by default. Album and local-playlist controls can save missing songs. Artwork retention and optional lyric fetching are separate settings. The app still needs internet permission for streaming and online discovery; a dedicated permissionless build is planned.

- Sep 29, 2026 0.1.0# Offline Music 0.1.0 First public preview of Offline Music, a GPL-3.0 Android fork of ArchiveTune. ## What is here - Library opens first. The Search tab searches the local library, including downloaded titles, artists, albums, playlists, and saved lyrics. - **Play all matches** queues the songs returned by a local search. A phrase from saved lyrics can be used as a simple smart queue. - When an online song starts playing, the app requests a download by default. This can be switched off in Playback settings. Album and local-playlist download controls can add missing tracks. - Automatic saving pauses when Low data mode is active on a metered connection.

- Artwork retention is on by default. Fetching lyrics after a new completed download is optional and off by default. The configured lyric providers receive song details when this is enabled. - The app has a separate Android package and a black-and-white notes icon, so it installs alongside ArchiveTune. ## Known limits - This is an early preview. It still requests Android internet permission for streaming and online discovery. Local search was checked with that permission revoked; a dedicated permissionless build is planned. - Automatic downloads can use mobile data and storage without a configured ceiling. Turn the setting off before using metered connections if that is a concern. - The release has no artist-discography download button. Album and playlist detail pages may include unsaved tracks until their download finishes. - YouTube Music does not provide dependable per-song genre tags through the inherited song model. Editable tags and genre queues remain planned. - Search uses SQLite substring matching; large libraries and lyric-heavy searches still need performance testing. - Existing ArchiveTune app-private downloads do not move automatically to the new package. - A library backup restores songs and playlists, but not audio bytes. Restore stages and checks the database before replacing the live one and retains a recovery copy through restart. Current XML settings backups are supported; legacy binary settings-only backups are not. The "re-download saved tracks" option is hidden until it can target only tracks that were actually downloaded. - Database migration failure now preserves the database instead of deleting it. Recovery from a corrupt or incompatible backup still needs a guided path. ## Verification The FOSS arm64 release build, signing, Room SQL queries, and an offline cold launch were checked. A positive on-device download, lyric retrieval, and fully offline playback test is still needed. The source security review documents remaining third-party and inherited-code limits. Static inspection cannot prove the absence of all malicious code. The production-signed APK uses the Offline Music release certificate.
