  • Nov 6, 2026 4.2.0
Murem 4.2.0 adds optional GPU acceleration for on-device processing. CPU stays the default. ### GPU acceleration (optional) - **Settings → Performance → Acceleration** now offers GPU (WebGPU), AI chip (NNAPI) and Optimized CPU (XNNPACK) next to CPU. - On a Galaxy S22 Ultra, GPU was clearly faster than CPU on a 15-minute video. Speed depends on the phone, so try it on a short clip first. - The GPU is busy while it works, so the phone can lag. It is best when you are not using the phone at the same time. - **Load limit** (Full speed, 75%, 50%) adds breaks so the screen gets the GPU back and the phone stays cooler. A lighter model in On-device models is smoother too. - If an accelerator does not work on your phone, Murem finishes the job on CPU and says so in Performance. On the Exynos S22 Ultra, NNAPI is one of those. ### System stats

    - The processing screen shows live graphs of GPU load (where the phone allows it), Murem's CPU and memory use, and how hot the phone is. Tap the header to collapse it. ### Other changes - New installs start in Internal (on-device) mode. Existing installs keep their mode. - Batch size now explains what it does. - Problem reports show the installed APK's version code, and their titles end at a sentence. ### Which APK to download - **murem-arm64-v8a-release.apk**: almost all current phones and tablets. - murem-armeabi-v7a-release.apk: older 32-bit phones. - murem-x86_64-release.apk: emulators and x86 devices. - murem-universal-release.apk: works everywhere, but is much larger (185 MB). Signed with the same key as 4.1.0, so it installs as an update. F-Droid builds it automatically in a few days.
  • Nov 5, 2026 4.1.0
Murem 4.1.0 adds tablet layouts and makes problems easier to report. ### Tablets and large screens - Home shows the input card and Recent side by side. - The player puts the video next to the waveform and controls. - Settings uses two panes: the list on the left, the selected page on the right. ### Problems and errors - **Report a problem** (Settings → About & help) opens a pre-filled GitHub issue with the app version, phone model and Android version. You review it in the browser before sending; nothing is sent by the app itself. Links and file paths are removed from the text. - When a job fails, the error banner has a **Report** button.
    - After a crash, Murem offers to report it the next time it opens. - If a result cannot play, the player says why and offers **Retry**, **Open in other app** and **Report**. ### Other changes - The processing screen shows when the job started ("Started 4:31 PM · 7 min ago"). - Recent shows the start time and how long each job took, and the info sheet lists Started, Finished and Took. Results made before 4.1.0 show only the finish time. - New **Open-source licenses** screen in About. - Model names in Recent are shorter (MDX-NET Voc FT, MDX-NET 3_9662). Signed with the same key as 4.0.0, so it installs as an update. F-Droid builds it automatically in a few days.
  • Nov 5, 2026 4.0.0
Murem can now remove music entirely on your phone, with no server and no Termux. This release also fixes the crashes reported in #2, #3 and #4. ### On-device processing (new) - New **Internal (on-device)** mode in Settings → Processing mode. It runs the separation model on the phone with ONNX Runtime. - Works with local video and audio files, and with links (YouTube, Instagram and other yt-dlp sites) through a built-in yt-dlp. - Models download on first use: MDX-NET HQ3, Voc FT, a small 28 MB model for low-end phones, Karaoke, and Kim Vocal 2 (optional, with a license notice). - Output: MP4 with the original video, or audio only as MP3 or M4A. - Performance settings: threads, quality vs speed, batch size, and a time estimate while processing. - Settings → yt-dlp → **Update yt-dlp** keeps link downloads working. Tap it once after installing. - Sites that need a login: log in with the built-in browser, or import a cookies.txt. Cookies are stored per site, can be turned on or off per site, and are excluded from backups.

    ### Redesigned app - New Home screen: one input card with Link and File tabs, several links at once (paste, add, or import a .txt), and an audio or video file picker. - Shares from other apps open the right mode automatically. - Settings is split into sections: Processing, Models, Output, Performance, Accounts & cookies, yt-dlp, Appearance, History & storage, About. - **Color palettes** in Appearance for people who don't use Material You. - Recent shows where each result was made (On device, Termux or Server). - The player keeps the screen on while playing, and "Open in external player" works again. ### Fixes - #2, #4: the app no longer crashes on start after the first result, and the Done screen no longer keeps coming back. Install this version over 3.0.0; you don't need to reinstall or clear data. - #3: large videos no longer run out of memory, in the app or on the server. - #1: audio files (MP3, M4A…) work as input in every mode. - Termux: setup now installs CPU-only PyTorch (no more GBs of NVIDIA packages), adds `audioread`, and installs a JS runtime so YouTube links work. After updating, tap **Update Server** in Settings → Processing mode. Manual setup is documented in the README. - Old jobs that the server no longer has now fail right away instead of showing "Resuming…" for minutes. ### Which APK to download - **murem-arm64-v8a-release.apk**: almost all current phones. - murem-armeabi-v7a-release.apk: older 32-bit phones. - murem-x86_64-release.apk: emulators and x86 devices. - murem-universal-release.apk: works everywhere, but is much larger (185 MB). The APK is bigger than before (about 67 MB for arm64) because it now includes ffmpeg, Python with yt-dlp, and ONNX Runtime for on-device processing. It is signed with the same key as 3.0.0, so it installs as an update.
